Adelanto provides access to extensive outdoor recreation including Joshua Tree National Park and San Bernardino National Forest with hiking, camping, and scenic driving.
Joshua Tree National Park lies roughly 60 miles southeast of Adelanto and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to explore two desert ecosystems—the Mojave and the Colorado deserts—in a single park. Visitors hike among the distinctive Joshua trees, climb the famous boulder formations, stargaze under dark night skies, and drive scenic roads through the landscape. The park's name comes from the twisted Joshua tree, a member of the yucca family found primarily in the Mojave; the trees dominate much of the park and the surrounding region.
Closer to Adelanto, the San Bernardino National Forest offers over 162 trails and 42 campgrounds throughout multiple recreation areas, with activities including hiking and backpacking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-highway vehicle recreation. The Bureau of Land Management manages additional public lands in the Mojave region where visitors can camp, hike, and explore. The combination of national park, national forest, and public land access makes the Victor Valley and surrounding region rich in outdoor opportunity.
