No-exam life insurance
Who gets fast-track underwriting, the mechanics, and what occurs if you don't qualify.
Most carriers today have expedited underwriting: for applicants in a given age and amount range, they reach a decision using your application, records of prescriptions, driving history and public databases instead of requiring a physical exam. Approvals can arrive within 24 hours. Each rate shown on this site indicates whether an exam is required, might be needed, or is not needed for that particular product.
What it changes
Expedited underwriting is not the same as no underwriting. Carriers verify your statements, and a policy issued based on false information can be contested for two years. Carriers may ask for exam or lab work if their own data warrants it; you decide whether to continue at that point.
Who tends to qualify
Usually persons under about 60 taking out amounts up to the carrier's underwriting cap, with no serious prior conditions and no nicotine use in a year or more. Some carriers will use exam results from a recent medical visit instead of requiring a new one.
An exam typically consists of a 20- to 30-minute session with a medical examiner sent to your residence or workplace in the Adelanto region, no charge to you. Better health can often improve your rate tier following an exam, so the process isn't automatically bad news.
